If you’ve ever planned a Mauritius holiday, but had no idea of what resort to choose, or which coast to be based on, then our very own Mel Tester has the inside scoop! A veteran Mauritius traveller, Mel breaks down our favourite Mauritius Beachcomber resorts, so you can simply pick and choose your ideal spot for your 2024 beach holiday.
Victoria has lovely family-size rooms which work out excellent value for money. Not many rooms in Mauritius can have two older kids sharing in the same room! The Kids Club on the beach is also fantastic; they offer movie nights some evenings as well. The swimming pool and kids pool is also right next to the main bar and restaurant, so parents can have eyes on kids at all times, plus the beach is wide and spacious.
Shandrani is now a 4* superior property, with similar pricing to Victoria. Shandrani has lots of fantastic facilities for kids and teenagers, including a 9-hole golf course, 3 very different beaches and plenty of lovely restaurants.
Paradis is a great 5* family hotel. I love that it’s very active, and attracts families because of this. The Tropical Rooms can also accommodate two children as well as parents.
Canonnier offers fantastic baby care, Kids Clubs and Teens Clubs, but if you have more than 2 children, it does work out a little more expensive than Victoria. Canonnier do also offer duplexes, making it ideal for teens.
At Victoria a Superior First-Floor Room is ideal if you only have on child, while the Deluxe Second-Floor and Deluxe Ground Floor Rooms are perfect for 2 kids sharing.
At Shandrani I would recommed the Deluxe Rooms, at Canonnier and Mauricia the Superior Room works well for 1 child, and at Paradis I would say the Tropical Room.
Victoria for 2 (a private adults-only section in Victoria Beachcomber) would be a wonderful choice. It’s beautiful, private and very special. For couples, you can enjoy the swim-up bar and even swim-up rooms!
I love Mauricia if you’re a vibey couple who want to be in on the action, it’s the perfect beach in the city! Always a good choice, and you can pop over to Canonnier to enjoy lovely lunches at the Navigator Restaurant – my favourite restaurant in Mauritius, with stunning views of Coin de Mire).
If you’re wanting an extra-special, luxurious stay, then Paradis, Dinarobin and Trou aux Biches offer a variety of romantic options.
At Victoria for 2 any room is amazing, but the swim-up rooms are extra special! I also really loved the Junior Beachfront Suites at Trou aux Biches, as they come with their own private pool! If you’re budget conscious, then the Tropical Junior Suite is a lovely option – they have their own outside shower too.
At Paradis, the Ocean Beachfront Rooms are superb, right on the beach! If you want a real spoil at Mauricia, then the new Suites are definitely on my list. You get your own private plunge pool, oudoor shower, all-white décor, bedroom with a separate lounge and amazing views.
It definitely does! Luckily all Beachcomber Hotels are on the west side, apart from Shandrani which is on the east coast. However, since Shandrani is situated on a peninsula, it’s quite sheltered with a beautiful location and quick transfer time.
West is generally best due to the weather and the famous Mauritius sunsets!
It all depends on how many kids are coming along! If it’s 2 adults only, or 2 adults and 1 child, then Mauricia and Canonnier are your most affordable options and are always amazing. For a family of 4, Victoria and Shandrani offer the best overall value.
