You’ll see large numbers of turtles head for Cozumel’s beaches during turtle nesting season, and a massive iguana population if you head for Chankanaab National Park, about 9km from town. You can also snorkel and swim with the dolphins there. Cozumel also has several Mayan archaeological sites; the most extensive of these can be seen at San Gervasio.
Your cruise ship will in downtown San Miguel from where you can walk virtually anywhere in town although you could rent a scooter and head for the east side of the island which is mostly undeveloped and has amazing beaches.
