The Maldives called, and you answered. Congrats on booking your tickets to paradise! Before you start packing your bags though, we’ve got some Maldives packing tips for you, starting with our number one packing rule: don’t overpack! You will spend most of your time on the beach or in the sea. So leave the heavy luggage at home.

The Maldives is a Muslim country, so it’s important to be respectful and dress conservatively, particularly on arrival at the airport, in the capital of Male, and in the villages. Once you’re at your resort, you won’t need to worry about covering up as there will mostly be tourists around.
Top tip: Make sure you pack a large scarf that can be worn over your shoulders, and pack at least one pair of loose, light trousers or a long skirt or dress.
Consider swimwear something of your Maldives uniform. At least ninety per cent of your Maldives holiday will be spent on the beach, in the water, or under the water, so take a couple of swimsuits with you to mix-and-match with a few cover-ups or kaftans.
Top tip: you’re going to do plenty of swimming, snorkelling and possibly even scuba diving, so make sure you pack at least one full swimsuit.
It goes without saying (but we’re saying it anyway), be sun-safe. Pack a sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses for protection from the intense sun.
Top tip: to prevent getting sunburned, start your holiday using 50 SPF sunscreen and then switch to 30 SPF after 5 or 6 days.
Don’t bother packing any shoes other than a pair of sandals. Many Maldives islands have a “no shoes, no news” policy, so you’ll end up ditching your footwear as soon as you arrive at your resort.
Top tip: if you’re dressing up to celebrate a special occasion and aren’t too keen on going barefoot, why not opt for a pair of barefoot sandals to add some sparkle to your outfits?
Flawless water clarity means unbeatable snorkelling and scuba diving. Besides finding three-quarters of the world’s reef fish population among these coral atoll islands, you’re also pretty much guaranteed close-up encounters with manta rays, dolphins and whales.
