What a year it has been…once again! In 2021 we saw border restrictions ease and vaccines continue to roll out. By October 2021 we were starting to see the light at the end of a very long and dark COVID tunnel, but just as we thought this was the beginning of the end, we were placed back on the UK red list.

Other countries followed suit, which was devastating for so many South African travellers as their big holiday plans and dreams came to an abrupt halt. Thankfully, after reconsideration, the UK removed South Africa from the red list by the middle of December.

As we head bravely into 2022, we see a great number of people not only considering travelling abroad, but booked and ready to go.

Close your Netflix and stop loafing on the couch because it is time to start planning some serious bucket-list trips again! But where can you travel in 2022? Here is our top trending destination list for a year of adventure.

Mauritius

Mauritius - 2022 Travel

Flic en Flac Beach, Mauritius

2022 is starting off with some great news! Mauritius is now welcoming South Africans back to its paradise shores as from 9 January 2022. For many years, Mauritius has always been a South African favourite. Once you’ve experienced the magic that this island has to offer, you will understand the hype! It is no surprise that Mauritius is still one of our top trending destinations, even during a pandemic.

Mauritius is known for its magnificent stretches of soft, white-sand beaches, sandwiched between the sparkling Indian Ocean and mystical green cliffs. However, there’s more to the island than meets the eye. Mauritius perfectly balances relaxation and luxury with adventure and excitement. Hike to spectacular mountain viewpoints and waterfalls and discover the Seven Coloured Earth caused by past volcanic activity, or head underwater for a snorkelling or diving experience that’ll top your favourite holiday list for years to come.

Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, Mauritius

The island has a subtropical climate that delivers sunny days, warmth and blue skies for most of the year. The cooler months, considered their winter months, are from June to September. Even though their winter months average in the mid-twenty degrees Celsius range, we recommend staying on the west coast of the island. If you are planning on going between June and September the weather will be warmer and you will most likely experience less wind.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar - 2022 Travel

Zanzibar Island

Zanzibar is what tropical island holiday dreams are made of! Colourful boutique hotels and coconut trees line white sandy beaches which stretch into glistening turquoise waters. The variety of hotels on the island means that every budget is catered for, from private islands off the coast to barefoot luxury beach-shack chic. There really is something for everyone.

The island oozes with charisma and charm. Most visitors enjoy lounging around in their beach hotel or exploring the warm Indian Ocean. But there is much more to the island than just a beautiful strip of beach. Zanzibar, the Spice Island, has a fascinating history, a rich Swahili coastal culture and an amazing atmosphere which attracts tourists year after year.

France

France - 2022 Travel

Paris, France

When it comes to France, Paris is right at the top of many travelers’ bucket lists and rightly so. The city is full of rich history, architecture, art, glamour, romance, and world-class cuisine. Whether you are planning to spend a day, a week or even a month in Paris, the City of Lights will charm you into returning to uncover all she has to offer.

Even though Paris is the first city that comes to mind when you think of France, it doesn’t mean that the other French cities should be overlooked. Be sure to visit the French countryside (Provence and Bordeaux), the island of Corsica and the French Riviera which comprises of the charming resort towns of Marseille, St Tropez, Cannes, Nice and Monaco.

Valensole Provence, France

The best time to visit this beautiful country is anytime between April and October. March to May is springtime in France. Summer ranges from June to August and autumn from September to the end of October. We recommend travelling in spring as the weather is very pleasant, with the old cold snap, and you will experience fewer crowds.

London, United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is a fascinating place to explore. It captivates with historical sights, scenic road trips, picturesque villages and wonderful pubs. If you like beer, history, and nature then the UK is a great holiday destination. While most only visit main cities like London, Brighton and York, there are so many amazing little villages to discover.

A fantastic way to explore this incredible country is by renting a car and driving from village to village. Don’t worry about driving on the wrong side of the road because they also drive on the left-hand side! The UK may not be the first place you think of when you’re a foodie, but with a growing gastro-pub culture and some amazing Michelin-star restaurants popping up every day, the UK actually has a lot of amazing dishes and bucket list restaurants.
