Wild About Each Other? These Safari Lodges Are Made for Honeymoons

04 August 2025

Planning your honeymoon and want more than just a beach resort? A safari honeymoon might be exactly what you’re looking for. Imagine waking up to birdsong, heading out on game drives, and watching elephants stroll past as you relax on the deck together. It’s romantic, adventurous, and completely different.

South Africa – and its neighbours – are home to some of the most magical lodges around. Whether you’re after total luxury or a laid-back bush break, there’s a safari honeymoon package with your name on it.

Is South Africa good for a honeymoon?

Definitely. South Africa is one of the best honeymoon destinations out there. You get everything in one trip – wildlife, luxury lodges, beautiful landscapes, and even beach or wine country add-ons. Plus, it’s easy to travel around and packed with romantic experiences.

What’s the average cost of a South African safari?

The price depends on where you stay and the time of year. On average:

  • Mid-range safari honeymoon: from R4,000 to R8,000 per person, per night
  • Luxury safari honeymoon: can go up to R20,000+ per person, per night

Most lodges include meals, drinks, game drives and even airport transfers, so once you’re there, it’s pretty much sorted.

Tell us your dream honeymoon – luxury, budget-friendly, or somewhere in between – and Pentravel will put together a package just for you.

Which month is best for safari in South Africa?

The best time to go is May to September. It’s dry season, which means better wildlife sightings and cooler days. September is great for honeymooners – it’s not too busy, the bush is thinner, and the weather is warming up.

Which part of South Africa is best for safari?

Kruger National Park holidays are the top choice. It’s huge, full of wildlife, and packed with incredible lodges. If you prefer malaria-free areas, Pilanesberg and the Eastern Cape are also good options – but Kruger is still the favourite for a honeymoon.

Our Favourite Romantic Safari Lodges for Honeymooners

1. Kruger Shalati: The Train on the Bridge
