Heading to New Zealand soon? ✈️ Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your trip!

  • Get your visa sorted. South Africans need to apply for a consular visa to enter New Zealand. You can stay for up to 90 days per entry, so be sure to apply in advance!
  • Pack for all kinds of weather. New Zealand’s weather can be unpredictable, so bring layers and a rain jacket, even if it looks sunny!
  • Driving is on the left. Just like in South Africa, New Zealanders drive on the left, so renting a car should feel pretty familiar.
  • Bring some cash. While cards are widely accepted, having a little local currency (New Zealand Dollars) on hand can be handy in smaller towns.
  • Pack the right plug adapter. New Zealand uses Type I plugs, with three flat prongs, so make sure you bring the right adapter for your electronics!

These tips will help you feel right at home 🏡 in New Zealand. Need more advice? Our experts are here to help you put together the perfect New Zealand holiday.

Did you know? 🤔 New Zealand is packed with interesting quirks! Here are some fun facts that might surprise you.

  • More sheep than people. There are about five sheep for every person in New Zealand!
  • The birthplace of bungy jumping. If you’re feeling brave, Queenstown is where bungy jumping all began!
  • No snakes. Unlike South Africa, you won’t find any land snakes slithering around in New Zealand.
  • Dunedin’s Baldwin Street is the steepest street in the world. It’s a must-see if you’re in the South Island.
  • Glowworm caves. The Waitomo Caves light up thanks to thousands of glowworms, creating a magical underground show.
