Itinerary

Day 1: Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal. a lively and multicultural place. Pre World War I wooden trams clank up steep gradients, past mosaic pavements and Art Nouveau cafés, and the medieval, village-like quarter of Alfama hangs below the city's castle. Modern Lisbon has kept an easy-going pace and boasts a vibrant, cosmopolitan identity from large communities of Africans and Asians. In 1994, Lisbon was European City of Culture, while in 1998 the city hosted the last great Expo of the millennium. There are few monuments and little art in Lisbon, largely due to the 1755 earthquake. There is one building from Portugal's golden age – the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos at Belém – that is the equal of any monument in the country. More modern developments include the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian museum complex and the Tómas Taveira's amazing postmodernist shopping centre at Amoreiras.

Day 2: Portimão, Portugal

Portimao is a city located in the District of Faro in the Region of Algarve on the southern coast of Portugal. It is famous for its fresh fish restaurants, grilled sardines being the most famous dish. One of the most well known beaches in the Algarve - Rocha ("Praia da Rocha"), meaning "Rocky Beach" - is very close to Portimao, and there are numerous others nearby. Portimao is surrounded by many beautiful places to visit, such as Armacao de Pera with its small 18th century fortress or the small beach village of Alvor. Across the river is the unspoilt fishing village of Ferragudo, with the fort of St John of Arade built during the 17th and 18th centuries and which was Portimao´s primary defence against pirates.

Day 3: Seville (Cadiz), Spain

The city of Cadiz is located on a peninsula protruding into the Bay of Cádiz, the Isle of Leon, separated from the mainland by a narrow and torturous channel, part of much larger Gulf of Cádiz. Very high and thick walls surround the city presenting a very picturesque appearance from the sea. Cádiz is of typical Andalusian character. The old part of Cádiz, commonly referred to as the Old City (Spanish Casco Antiguo), is shaped by the individuality of the various quarters (Spanish barrios), "El Populo," "La Viña," or "Santa Maria." These areas offer a marked contrast to the newer areas of town. While the townscape of the Old City is largely formed by narrow alleys leading into a number of plazas, newer areas consist of wide avenues and more modern buildings. In addition, the city is dotted with numerous parks with old giant trees supposedly brought there by Columbus.

Day 4: Motril, Spain

Motril is a town and municipality on the Mediterranean coast in the province of Granada, Spain. It is located midway between the resorts of Malaga to the west and Almeria to the east and is the biggest town on the Costa Tropical. Motril offers beautiful beaches and a lively port. The town centre has many tapas bars and restaurants and the marina and nautical club offers a variety of watersports. Motril’s coastal strip has two main beaches; Playa Poniente and Playa Granada. Granada is only 40 minutes from Motril and is worth a visit to see the famous Alhambra Palace, the Generalife Gardens and the Hamman Arabic baths.

Day 5: Gibraltar, United Kingdom

Gibraltar is both a town and country of only 7 sq. km , but it has its own airport, currency, postage stamps, naval and military garrisons, two cathedrals, its own newspapers, radio, and TV and a casino. "The Rock" enjoys a pleasant climate and has a recorded history dating from A.D. 711 and traces of cave occupation 40,000 years ago. The Rock of Gibraltar is a massive limestone rock rising out of the sea to a height of 425m (1,396 ft.), and is often referred to as the Gateway to the Mediterranean. The town of Gibraltar lies on the west side of the Rock around the harbors. You can visit the top attractions in 3 to 4 hours. Most visitors, however, allocate a full day.

Day 6: Ibiza, Spain

Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea, belonging to Spain. With Formentera, it is one of the two Pine Islands. Major cities are Ibiza, Santa Eulària des Riu and Sant Antoni de Portmany. The Island of Ibiza is most famously known for its summer parties, with thousands of people flooding in for the big summer club nights. There are beautiful beaches of all sorts - family, sporting, solitary, wild, tranquil, with deep or shallow waters for children's bathing.

Day 7: Palma (Majorca), Spain

Majorca is the largest island of Spain. It is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is part of the Balearic Islands archipelago. Like the other Balearic Islands, Ibiza, Formentera, and Minorca the island is a popular tourist destination. Palma de Mallorca is the capital city of Majorca and a major tourist destination. It boasts a magnificent Cathedral, an interesting historic quarter, Arab baths and Bellver Castle and museum. Its beach is also the most popular on the island.

Day 8: Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and the capital of Catalonia. It is located on the shores of the Mediterranean and enjoys a mild climate all year round.Barcelona is one of Europe’s largest and most successful ports and one of the world’s leading cities in art and architecture. From the modern cruise terminal at the docks you will need a taxi or tour to see the artistic beauty of this unique destination, credited to the talents of Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Antonio Gaudi, Jose Clara and others. Stroll the mosaic-paved Ramblas, the city's social hub, with open-air cafes, street entertainers and flower displays. See its unique Catalonian cultural heritage in the ancient Gothic Quarter, the surrealistic architecture of Antonio Gaudi and some outstanding museums. Sights of interest include the Columbus Monument, the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia (1298 to 1454), the Maritime Museum, Picasso Gallery, La Sagrada Familia (Gaudi's unfinished cathedral), Palau Guell (Gaudi mansion) and the Olympic stadiums.
