Rothenburg

Rothenburg

Rothenburg is a well-preserved medieval fortified town with its 15th-century altar piece in St. Jacob’s Church, carved by Tilman Riemenschneider, Germany’s Gothic contemporary of Michelangelo.  Explore the Christmas world of Käthe Wohlfahrt’s museum.
The name “Rothenburg ob der Tauber” means “Red Fortress above the Tauber” so named because the town with its red-roofed buildings, is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River.
