You want to travel more, but you have to wait for your friends to get the ball rolling. Why not go solo? Solo travel can be fulfilling and life-changing, and if the opportunity presents itself, it is an experience not to be missed. Discovering a new place alone opens up many possibilities, and travelling solo means that you can set your own agenda.

For first-timers heading out on an adventure alone, we’ve rounded up five destinations that are entirely conducive to solo travel.

1. Seville, Spain

Seville, in the south of Spain, has a reputation for a lively social life and fun-loving people. There’s always something happening – in the streets, the plazas and spilling onto the cobblestones outside the bars. You don’t even need to make a plan – all you have to do is head out and let the fun find you!

2. Paris, France

Paris is always a good idea! For solo travellers, visiting Paris is like having a love affair with yourself. Stroll the Boulevard St. Germain, browse the world’s best museums, and taste famous wines and cheese. Plus, there is nothing like sitting at one of the many quaint pavement cafes in the city with a freshly baked pastry and a café au lait (espresso with hot milk), watching the world go by.

3. London, UK

Surrounded by a staggering number of art and history museums, including the Tate Modern, the British Museum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, you’ll have more than enough culture to fill up your days. If you need more though, London will always deliver, whether in the form of a show at the Old Vic or National Theatre, browsing a city market, or strolling through Regent’s Park.

4. Amsterdam, Netherlands

There is never a dull moment in Amsterdam. During the day, the city’s numerous museums offer an outstanding variety of exhibitions. Head to  Museumplein to discover some of the city’s most iconic cultural institutes – the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk and Van Gogh Museum. Besides these famed institutions, Amsterdam is also home to some unusual attractions, like the Hash, Marihuana & Hemp Museum and the Museum of Sex.

5. Dublin, Ireland

Often labelled a party city, Dublin is a great place for solo travellers to make new friends. The city is relatively small and packed with friendly locals, making it an easy place to find your feet. Spend the afternoons lingering over a newspaper or book in a quiet corner of a pub or find a seat at the bar and get into the party spirit over a pint or two. If you want to learn more about the city and its history, there are ample opportunities to join a walking tour.
